Super Ultimate Article IV Written by Me VS Capcom X

I’m over this. I really am. How many editions of the same game are they going to release? Street Fighter IV. Super Street Fighter IV. Marvel vs Capcom 3. Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. Do we see a theme here?

In my opinion, Capcom is like Drew Barrymore from 50 First Dates. They keep doing the same thing over, and over, and over, with no recollection of what they have previously done. Seriously, how many different ways are they going to try pry $60 from our wallets?

See Blanka’s face? That’s the face I make whenever I hear a new Street Fighter game announced.

Their latest attempt is Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. What they did is revolutionary; let me see if I can break down this masterful scheme for you. What you do is make a fighting game that sells for $60. It needs to sell a good amount of copies and receive positive reviews. Then, about seven months later, you release the same game with 12 new characters, a couple of new stages (does anyone get hyped for backgrounds that have no effect on the gameplay whatsoever?), a new gameplay mode (ultimately, it’s a fighting game, so it will play exactly like the other modes), and improvements to the game’s balance and online functionality (that’s what we in the industry call a patch). Good news is that it will probably be sold for $50 instead of $60.

I like to call this the Apple method. That’s when you release a product, and after a few months of good sales you release another version with slight upgrades. The problem is that people are going to buy this game, so why should they stop doing it?

If Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 isn’t enough for you, you can start salivating at the super-exciting, revolutionary, innovative fighting game Street Fighter X Tekken. Here you get your favorite characters from Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV, and you have them battle against the best fighters from the Tekken series. It’s being developed by Capcom, so we don’t have to worry about it being any different than Street Fighter IV. Yay! We get more 2D fighting with same screen-takover, siezure-and-vomit-inducing, over-the-top, super-special combos!

Siezure-inducing? Check.

It’s like Capcom is afraid to get truly inventive and create a new fighting game, so they just rehash the same one again, and again. Just do a mash-up with another game’s characters. No one will know the difference. If you put a cool cinematic of Ryu fighting x champion, people will get excited. Also, they don’t really make “new” characters. They just take Ryu’s costume, make it a different color, and put a new name on it.

I beg you, gaming community: expect more. Otherwise, we are destined to experience Super Street Fighter Ultimate X vs Pokemon—or some shit like that.

Let us know how you feel about Capcom releasing multiple versions of each fighting game in the Comment Section below.
