Everyone should see “The Art of Video Games” exhibit

If you live in south Florida and are into video games (heck, even if you're not into video games), then you need to check out the newest exhibit to arrive in the Boca Raton Museum of Art located in Boca Raton. Now open, and running until January 13, 2013, The Art of Video Games "explores the legacy of video games as a medium for artistic expression."

Whether you're interested in art, or video games, or both, the exhibit gives you the opportunity to explore the evolution of video games since they were first introduced 40 years ago. The exhibit, curated by Chris Melissinos, focuses on the "interplay of graphics, technology, and storytelling."

Earlier today, GameZone had the opportunity to stop by the exhibit and speak with Chris Melissinos, chief gaming officer for Sun Microsystems and Founder of PastPixels. As you'll see in the interview, Melissinos is very knowledgeable about video games, and his passion of the medium as art is fully on display in this exhibit.

The exhibit contains some of the best games for 20 gaming systems, ranging from the Atari VCS to the PlayStation 3. The video games are presented through a combination of still images and video footage, in addition to galleries that include video interviews with developers and artists. Additionally, five featured games, one from each era, are available for visitors to play and experience.

If you live in South Florida and have some spare time this weekend, I highly suggest you stop by the Boca Raton Museum of Art and check out this exhibit. As I mentioned, the exhibit will be here until January 13, 2013, but if you attend this weekend you'll have the opportunity to meet the curator, Chris Melissinos, and talk with him about video games as an art. If you're unable to attend, then enjoy the video above (pictures below) and get a brief tour of the exhibit.
