Xbox One and PS4 game releases for March 2014

Things are picking up for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Following a surprisingly busy February, the momentum continues as both the Xbox One and PS4 are each seeing the launch of an exclusive title this month. For Xbox One, we've got Titanfall, Respawn Entertainment's highly anticipated multiplayer shooter. For PS4, we've got inFamous: Second Son, the newest entry in the long-standing PlayStation exclusive franchise. In between, we've got a number of next-gen re-releases of past titles including Awesomenauts, FEZ, and even Dead Nation. Below are the new Xbox One and PS4 games coming in March 2014.

Awesomenauts Assemble! – PS4 – March 4, 2014

Awesomenauts Assemble

The next-gen console version of Ronimo Games' 2D MOBA, Awesomenauts Assemble! features 15 characters to square off against online in fast-paced 3v3 battles with a drop-in/drop-out matchmaking system. New to the PS4 version are additional skins to customize your characters, a new map, improved controls, and 7 all-new characters.

Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition – PS4 – March 4, 2014

Dead Nation Apocalypse Edition

Remember Housemarque's top-down shoot 'em up, Dead Nation, that was release through PSN in 2010? Well, Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition is a re-release of that apocalyptic, zombie-infested shooter with "numerous enhancements" including full 1080p, improved textures, rendering and effects. Controls have also been improved with the addition of a quick weapon select. Additionally, two new modes have been added for the PS4 version: a high score Challenge Mode and a livestreaming Broadcast+ Mode which allows stream viewers to actually influence the difficulty of your game.

I should also mention that Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition is the free for PlayStation Plus members on PS4 for the month of March.

Titanfall – Xbox One – March 11, 2014

Titanfall

Titanfall — Respawn Entertainment's multiplayer shooter — is easily one of the Xbox One's most anticipated game. Seriously, this is the reason my brother went out and bought an Xbox One (though the question is still asked). Microsoft certainly has a lot riding on Titanfall, which some claim could turn into a franchise as big as Call of Duty. While I can't call it the "CoD killer" just yet, it has all the right stuff to make it a serious contender as one of the best shooters for 2014. For Xbox One owners, this is probably a must-buy game. If you don't own an Xbox One, Microsoft is offering a lovely bundle for $499 which includes an Xbox One and a free copy of Titanfall.

TowerFall Ascension – PS4 – March 11, 2014

TowerFall Ascension

Not exactly the biggest title to hit PS4, TowerFall Ascension is the enhanced console version of one of the most popular games available for the Android-based Ouya, TowerFall. The PS4 version adds 60 new Versus arenas for a total of 120 levels as well as new power-ups. The PS4 version also gets the new one- or two-player co-op Quest mode, where players can work together to defend from spawning monsters.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes – PS4, Xbox One – March 18, 2014

MGSV: Ground Zeroes

The first of a two-parter, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes acts as a prologue to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The game takes place one year after the events of MGS: Peace Walker with players assuming control of the legendary Snake (now voiced by the great Keifer Sutherland). Snake must infiltrate Camp Omega where Paz and Chico are being held in attempt to prevent key information concerning his private military organization from being exposed.

inFamous: Second Son – PS4 – March 21, 2014

inFamous Second Son

If you've owned a PlayStation 3, you are probably well aware of the inFamous series. On PlayStation 4, the open-world adventure continues with inFamous: Second Son as you take on the role of Delsin Row, a 24-year-old graffiti artist who — through a bus crash — comes in contact with a Conduit and awakes with new abilities. Infamous: Second Son is the first of several blockbuster exclusive planned for the PS4 this year.

FEZ – PS4 – March 25, 2014

Fez

Considered the "best-looking and smoothest FEZ experience you can get on a TV set," the PS4 version of Polyton's 2D platformer runs in 1080p at 60 frames per second. While there's no gameplay differences between the this and any past version you may have played, Polytron claims the PS4's enhanced power allows for an even crisper and blockier look — "in a good way."

Not a bad month for the PS4 and Xbox One. While a lot of the PS4's titles are rereleases, both consoles are seeing at least one major exclusive blockbuster title release. While Titanfall may have a broader appeal, possibly encouraging new Xbox One purchases, the PS4's solid lineup of game releases should bolster the console's sales.
