Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu – GC – Preview

E3 2003 –
Hands On
(played on PS2)

Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu is
the next Batman game to be released, two years after the well-received Batman: Vengeance.  Like
Vengeance, Rise of Sin Tzu will feature the same art style of the animated TV show, though unlike
Vengeance, Rise of Sin Tzu will be a straight brawler, focusing primarily on combat and fighting
than on gadgets and puzzles.

Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu
marks the introduction of a new Batman villain, Sin Tzu, designed by renowned comic book artist, Jim
Lee.  While Sin Tzu will be the main villain of the game, it will feature such popular
super-villains from the comics and TV show as Clayface and Scarecrow.

Rise of Sin Tzu allows you
to play not only as Batman, but also as Nightwing, Robin, and Batgirl as well, each one endowed with
unique moves and combos.  Upon trying out the game, I found the action to be very combat heavy with
tons of enemies coming at your character at once.  The use of special bat-gadgets as batarangs and
grappling hooks was surprisingly non-cumbersome, and it was very quick and easy to rack up huge
combos.

The game’s new two-player
elements were probably the highlight of the gameplay.  With a friend you could perform assisting
combos and get bonus points, or earn them by saving your partner from getting hit by an enemy.  The
action in Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu was fairly simplistic, but should still provide interesting
mindlessly fun action when it’s released this fall.
