Star Wars: The Old Republic goes free to play for the weekend

Are subscribers for Star Wars: The Old Republic down?  Whatever the cause, BioWare has announced a free trial in attempt to lure new players into recently released MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Beginning Thursday, March 15 at 12:01AM CT, BioWare is offering you free access to SWTOR via a weekend pass trial.  All server types will be available to play on, although there are some restrictions placed on the weekend trial.

The free trial, which ends on Monday, March 19 at 2:00AM CT, allows you to reach level 15 and only grants you the ability to travel to the Origin World, Capital World, the Fleet, all Warzones, and their first Flashpoint.

Other restrictions include the inability to use general chat, trade chat, or PvP chat (so it will get lonely), send or reply to mail by other trial characters, or use the Galactic Trade Network.  You will also only be able to rank your Crew Skills to around 40.

The weekend free trial is only available for those who have never had an active game account for SWTOR.  BioWare currently has no plans to wipe your character immediately after the trial ends, so if you don't sign up right away you don't have to worry about losing your progress – at least for now.  This, of course, could change.

You can sign up for the free trial via the SWTOR website.
