426k Xbox 360s sold in February

Microsoft has sold 426,000 Xbox 360 consoles in February.  The console manufacturer revealed its sales numbers, ahead of official NPD sales report.

This marks the 14 consecutive month with the Xbox 360 in the top sales spot among consoles – holding 42% share of current-gen console sales.  The company also boasted that this was the 12th consecutive month that the Xbox 360 has held more than 40% of the market share.

In addition, hardware, software, and accessory sales for the Xbox 360 have combined for a total of $383 million in sales, the most for any console in the United States.

During February, Xbox 360 held five of the top 10 U.S. console titles including: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, UFC Undisputed, NBA 2K12, and "Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

"This year, Xbox 360 will again deliver an interactive entertainment portfolio of blockbuster titles, experiences and add-on content, including additions to the famed Halo and Fable franchises," the company said in a press release.  "The more than 50 Xbox LIVE entertainment partners will continue to expand with many more launching throughout the year. Later this year, Xbox 360 will deliver entirely new groundbreaking experiences like "Kinect Sesame Street TV" and "Nat Geo TV," forever changing the way people interact with their favorite TV entertainment."

One of the most highly anticipated Xbox 360 exclusive titles, moving forward in the year, will be Halo 4.  There is no official release date planned as of yet, but 343 Industries has said it will be released sometime in 2012 with an announcement expected "in the not-too-crazy-distant future".
