Back in August Nintendo took to their 3DS centric Nintendo Direct to reveal of the New 3DS/XL. The New 3DS' come equipped with an extra analog stick (the C-Stick), two new shoulder bumpers, interchangeable faceplates and more.
Here we are about two and a half months later and the New 3DS/XL has released in Japan, but how popular is it? Did gamers ditch their old 3DS' and opt for a New 3DS, did people without 3DS' buy a new one? Let's look at the numbers.
During the New 3DS/XL's launch weekend the handheld's sold a combined total of 233,483 units. The New 3DS itself sold 61,151 – making its big brother the New 3DS XL the more popular of the two, seeing as it sold 172,332.
It should be noted that the New 3DS came with faceplates and the New 3DS XL had a Monster Hunter 4 bundle. Those bonuses might've effected the sales.
We should be seeing the New 3DS/XL sometime in 2015, no solid dates have yet been provided for North America or Europe.
