Review: Corsair Gaming H2100 Wireless Gaming Headset

Quality and comfort

Part of Corsair’s new line of high-performance gaming peripherals is the H2100 Wireless Gaming Headset, and higher performing it is. Having used this headset for a week now, and having quite a few other headsets to compare it to, the H2100 is easily one of the better sounding headsets on the market.

Featuring Dolby 7.1 surround sound, Corsair H2100 delivers crisp, clear, and accurate positional audio. It’s got great range, nice highs and lows, and deep bass. While I found it to sound great out of the box, setting your specific audio preferences is as easy as downloading the associated software from online. Built into the headset is an advanced unidirectional noise-cancelling microphone, which means you shouldn’t have to worry too much about it picking up the ambient noise.

Although I appreciate a great sounding headset, comfort is what’s most important to me. Oftentimes, I end up using a headset only for its built-in microphone and play audio through my regular computer speaks since headsets tend to get heavy or sweaty after a while. The H2100’s microfiber-wrapped memory foam earpads, which rest comfortably over my ear without clamping, prevent a sweaty build up — even after hours of gameplay which its up to 10 hours of battery life can allow for. At my age, I’m beyond those marathon days, so while I’m sure some of you will appreciate the lengthy lifespan, it’s really not hard to charge the headset (or even use it while it’s charging).

Although the earcups are a comfortable fit, the headset itself is a bit heavy in wait. I definitely prefer a lighter weight to my headset, though I’ll also be the first to admit that I’m not the norm when it comes to gaming with a headset on. In fact, I had two other colleagues try on the headset and they said it felt perfectly fine in weight. So it’s probably just my oversensitivity to headsets.

As a wireless headset with up to 40 feet of “unrestricted movement,” you don’t need to worry about any cords being tangled, which is a major plus for me since I’ve (and I’m embarrassed to admit this) have broken plenty of headsets due to the wire getting wrapped around my chair and ripping out of the computer when I get up. Hooking up the headset requires just that you plug the receiver into a USB in your computer, charge your headset, and press a button that links the two. It’s that easy.

At $99, the Corsair H2100 Gaming Headset is of great value given the exceptional audio quality and overall comfort.
