For the tenth month in a row, the PlayStation 4 is the best-selling console. Celebrating the NPD Group's report, Sony tweeted that the PS4 outsold all other consoles in the United States for the month of October 2014.

While specific sales numbers weren't revealed, NPD Group's Liam Callahan noted that through the first 12 months of availability, cumulative sales for the PS4 and Xbox One combined are over 70 percent higher than the combined first year totals of Xbox 360 and Xbox 360.
Video game sales for October 2014 totaled $790.7 million which was flat compared to the $791.3 million in sales for October 2013. On the bright side, new console sales are up.
"Hardware sales of eighth generation consoles represent close to 80 percent of dollar sales this month driving overall consoles sales to increase by 186 percent over October 2013," Callahan noted.
Unfortunately for Sony, it looks like their time at the top might be coming to an end. Thanks to a holiday price cut and attractive bundles, sales of Microsoft's Xbox One have reportedly "skyrocketed," the platform holder announced this week. According to Microsoft's Yusuf Mehdi, Xbox One sales in the United States have more than tripled since the new price took effect on November 2nd. As a result, the Xbox One has led "generation 8" console sales (aka the PS4) in the United States for the first two weeks of November. Should the pace continue, November will mark the first time the Xbox One outsells the PS4 in the United States for an entire month.
