"The community has shown their interest in this game. Valve has reached out to this developer to start moving things toward release on Steam."
That is the message that waits atop the Steam Greenlight page for Hatred, the controversial game from Destructive Creations. Since the first trailer released, Hatred has been at the center of a controversy over whether it should even be made. The gaming community was pretty much split down the middle — half were intrigued by the game, the other half disgusted.
Hatred was already on Steam Greenlight and got removed by Valve, saying "Based on what we've seen on Greenlight we would not publish Hatred on Steam." It was later put back on Steam Greenlight with an apology from Gabe Newell to the developer.
Some of the features listed on Hatred's Steam page are:
- Fight against law enforcement
- Gathering equipment off the dead and spreading Armageddon upon society.
- Destroying everything on your way, hunting and fighting back.
- Discovering the plot in a non-linear way
With Hatred now being greenlit, it looks like we'll see the game playable on Steam sometime in 2015. Whether you approve of the game or not, consumers speak with their wallets, and there is a market for Hatred in gaming. Personally, I won't be playing it. I don't like the premise. It's just not for me, but I totally would defend someone's right to. We shouldn't be censoring games. If people don't want it and are insulted by Hatred's existence, then they won't buy it — simple as that.
