Remember when Lizard Squad yawned at the idea of being caught by authorities for their childish antics? Well, karma's a bi*ch.
According to reports, at least one member of the notorious "hacker" group responsible for launching distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks against large online gaming networks, like PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE, has been arrested.
22-year-old male Vinnie Omari was reportedly arrested by police in the United Kingdom on Monday after British law enforcement agents from the South East Regional Organized Crime Unit raided his home. Aparently, Omari confirmed the raid with the Daily Dot, even providing a photo of the search warrant he received.
Police "took everything," Omari told the Daily Dot in an email. “Xbox one, phones, laptops, computer USBs, etc.”
A press release from the Thames Valley Police lines up with the claim, confirming the arrest of a 22-year-old man from Twickenham "on suspicion of fraud by false representation and Computer Misuse Act offences."
"The arrest yesterday (30/12) is in connection with an ongoing investigation in to cyber fraud offences which took place between 2013 and August 2014 during which victims reported funds being stolen from their PayPal accounts," the statement continues.
The arrested man was said to have been released on bail until March 10, a statement that aligns with a photo of a police bail notice for a man, Vinnie Omari, provided by independent security researcher Brian Krebs.
Although Omari's arrest were for events ranging between 2013 and August 2014, Lizard Squad most recently launched DDoS attacks on Christmas, December 25, against Sony's PlayStation Network and Microsoft's Xbox LIVE. The attacks left both services inaccessible for legitimate users, and caused extended outages for millions of gamers worldwide.
Omari told Daily Dot that no charges have been filed yet, "just alleged charges." He added that he'll "know more when the forensics team gets info."
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is also investigating another Lizard Squad member known as "ryan" or "ryanc" for his connection in the Christmas attacks against PSN and Xbox LIVE.
In response to the arrests, Lizard Squad is acting even more childish on Twitter.
