Fox orders a pilot for Minority Report series

Everybody runs

The 2002 sci-fi film from Steven Spielberg, Minority Report, is one of my favorite films of all-time, and one of Tom Cruise's best films. It takes place in a future where a special police unit uses a psychic technology to arrest and convict murderers before they commit their crime. Cruise plays an officer in the Precrime unit that is accused of the future murder of a man he has never met. He takes off, learns about the system, clears his name, and finds out what's going on.

It's a great movie, and now Fox has ordered a pilot for a Minority Report TV series — the first formal pilot order for the 2015-16 development cycle. It is supposed to be a sequel to the film set 10 years after the precrime in Washington, D.C.

From Variety, "The drama centers on one of three 'precogs' who's struggling to lead a normal life because he's haunted by visions of the future. He may find a purpose to his gift after meeting a detective haunted by her past."

Since the cancellation of Almost Human, Fox hasn't had a sci-fi series. They had Fringe, which I consider one of my favorite TV shows of all-time (with a rocky final season), but there's currently no sci-fi presence. Hopefully Minority Report gets a solid cast, good writing, and can fill the sci-fi void.
