Star Trek 3 just got a desperately needed boost. The third in the reboot series wasn't looking too great after J.J. Abrams left to do Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Unleashed. And director Roberto Orci left. But things are on the up and up. Fast & Furious director Justin Lin is now at the helm, at it was just announced that Simon Pegg will be co-writing Star Trek 3 with Doug Jung.
Pegg has impressive writing credentials with a great list of comedies/dark comedies/action films. Pegg co-wrote Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World's End and Run Fatboy Run. Pegg starred as Scotty in Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness. He will reprise the role in Star Trek 3.
It'll be interesting to see the direction the script goes with Pegg at the writing table now. Paramount is aiming to release Star Trek 3 in time for Star Trek's 50th anniversary in 2016.
