PlanetSide 2 sets new Guinness World Record

'Most players online in a single FPS battle'

Over the weekend, the PlanetSide 2 community came together to set a new Guinness World Record title for "Most players online in a single FPS battle."

The new record was officially set on January 24, 2015, breaking that which was set by Man vs. Machine back in 2012. Organized by SOE with the help of the player-driven community PlanetSideBattles, 1,158 players partook in the in-game battle on Hossin between all three Empires (Terran Republic, Vanu Sovereignty, and New Conglomerate).

"PlanetSide held the original record for this achievement and we're thrilled to have officially taken it back with PlanetSide 2," said producer David Carey. Man vs. Machine's previous record was 999 players.

"This amazing achievement shows not only how truly massive the PlanetSide 2 universe is, but also how inclusive its online community is," said Annie Nguyen, Video Games Records Manager at Guinness World Records. "This title truly embodies the international, record-breaking spirit of Guinness World Records."

PlanetSide 2 officially released on PC back in November 2012. Lately, SOE has been hard at work getting the game over to PlayStation 4. Closed beta for the PS4 version of the game launched last week.
