Banjo Kazooie’s spiritual successor is back in development

The hype cannot be controlled

Back in 2012, the Mingy Jongo project surfaced with a purpose to create a spiritual successor for the Rareware series, Banjo-Kazooie. This spiritual successor had no connection with the series itself, but it had a decent amount of support – including collaboration with the Rare composer Grant Kirkhope. That project is still alive.

During an Ask Me Anything on Reddit Kirkhope revealed that the project had 'fallen to bits,' but Mingy Jongo has been hinting at a rebirth since early this year.

The Mingy Jongo Twitter account was updated on January 24 with a Tweet that read: Installing update 0x1D597. It was discovered that  "0x1D597" translated to 120215 – February 12th, 2015. The same day that Edge magazine will be releasing the latest issue of the magazine… Yesterday they tweeted: Bzzt. Update Complete. Standby for reboot. Reveal mode engage…….

It's happening!

It turns out that there is an interview with the developer, Playtonic, of the spiritual successor. The staff is around six people strong at the studio, but they are looking to grow. The best part is that they have the funding to create the game, although they are still looking for publisher. The developers of the Banjo-Kazooie spiritual successor would love to see the game come to a Nintendo platform because of the history the product has with the company.

The game, which has no name as of yet, will be hitting Steam Early Access as soon as possible.
