Looking to calm some of the anxiety expressed by fans, Nintendo has assured that Walmart's online preorders for the new Mario amiibo Gold Edition "represent just a small fraction" of the amount that'll actually be available when the limited edition figure actually launches on March 20.
"Just a reminder that the Walmart online preorders for the new Mario amiibo Gold Edition represent just a small fraction of product made available in advance of the launch. You can still pick one up at a Walmart store on 3/20."
The Super Mario amiibo Gold Edition, "a shiny gold-colored Mario figure" that can be used with certain Wii U games to unlock certain features or modes, was officially announced last week. It will arrive alongside the Wii U's Mario Party 10, but will only be sold exclusively at 3,000 Walmart stores across the United States. Another way to get one was to preorder it online, but the figure was sold out almost immediately. Adding insult to injury to real Nintendo fans, some people lucky enough to snag the figure online took their preorder and listed it on eBay for prices nearly 10 times more than the $12.96 Walmart was selling it for.
Odds are, the Gold Mario amiibo will still be extremely difficult to find in stores on March 20, but at least there's still a chance.
