Forget for a second that Will Smith won't be returning to star in Independence Day 2. Just forget it. He has more important things to do, like salvage a reputation after films like After Earth and Focus. You know who will be returning (because he's f*cking awesome)? Jeff Goldblum. And Liam Hemsworth is joining him.
Director of the Independence Day sequel Roland Emmerich wrote on twitter, "Excited to Officially announce @LiamHemsworth and #JeffGoldblum as the next two pieces of the #IndependenceDay sequel."
There's rumors and reports everywhere now. Hollywood Reporter is saying that Jessie Usher, lead of Starz's Survivor's Remorse, has also been cast in the film. He'll play the son of Will Smith's character, and will be a central role in the film. While Goldblum is obviously playing the role of David Levinson, it's not yet known who Hemsworth is playing. Although, there are rumors of Hemsworth playing a character related to Bill Pullman's character, President Thomas J. Whitmore.

Independence Day 2 is set to open in theaters on June 24, 2016. The original opened on July 3, 1996… so I'm a little disappointed they're not releasing the sequel closer to July 4th.
