Star Wars Battlefront confirmed for Xbox One, PS4, and PC only

Still coming holiday 2015

If you plan on playing the highly anticipated Star Wars Battlefront, than it's time to upgrade. Well, not right this minute as the game won't be out until later this year, but Electronic Arts has confirmed that the new Star Wars Battlefront will only be available on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

We've known for a while now that EA is targeting a holiday 2015 release, but the game's platforms have long been a mystery. The announcement of current-gen only has been met with mixed reaction, but I'm personally glad to see DICE focusing only on current-gen. For too long have Xbox One and PS4 games been handicapped by last generation consoles. It's time we get the "next-gen" experience we paid for.

Of course, the big mystery now is if it'll be able to run in 1080p at 60 frames per second. Odds are EA or DICE won't comment on that for a while, but we'll have a pretty good idea as to how the game is shaping up next month. EA also confirmed today that Star Wars Battlefront will make its grand debut next month at Star Wars Celebration (April 16-19). We don't yet know what exactly will be shown, but I'm going to assume it'll be what earned a "superb ovation" from retailers earlier this month.

I'm hoping to see some gameplay, but I doubt it'll be hands-on at this point. I'm sure EA is saving that for E3. But hey, I think we'll all just be glad to have EA lift the curtain a bit — even if it is just a peek.
