Around six months before E3 2013, when Tom Clancy's The Division made its debut, composer Ola Strandh began writing the music that was a part of the initial gameplay reveal. Strandh didn't want to garner any preconceptions about the sounds that should be in the game, so without looking at much he dove into the game's story to figure out "where the sounds come from."
"There are going to be characters in the game that play different instruments and you're going to encounter these people in different ways, in different locations," says Strandh. One of these music playing characters will be a pianist. Strandh's influence was founded on the devolution of man, what happens to people when society breaks down.
With E3 right around the corner, I'd expect to hear more regarding The Division soon.
