Star Wars Battlefront won’t feature classes or squads

This won't be some Battlefield game

DICE is changing things up with Star Wars Battlefront, revealing that the highly anticipated shooter won't have classes or squads.

While classes were in previous Battlefront games, squads were something some might have expected DICE to bring over from the Battlefield franchise. Of course, from the very beginning we've heard that Star Wars Battlefront won't be just a reskinned Battlefield, and this is further proof.

Battlefront Design Director Niklas Fegraues sat down with OXM and coughed up some details on DICE's Star Wars game for the coming issue of the magazine.

Fegraeus detailed that players won't be selecting pre-made classes. Instead, they will be "freely" picking their weapons and gear. There will even be ways for players to unlock new items with XP and change your item sets as you see fit.

As for squads, there won't be any.

A 'Partners' feature will link two players together and having them able to view eachother's HUDS. The feature will also allow partners to spawn on each other, cutting travel time distance (and help with deaths). Any item that one play unlocks will be available to their partner, meaning a higher level partner or someone who has used up more of their XP will offer you more items to try out.
