Lando Calrissian, the smooth talking gambler last seen dancing merrily at the Ewok party in Return of the Jedi (if you don't include his appearance in Star Wars Rebels), could appear in future Star Wars films.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, Lawrence Kasdan, screenwriter for both The Empire Strikes Back and The Force Awakens, hinted that the fan-favorite character could return to the big screen at some point in the future, though he didn't say if it would be in The Force Awakens, which hits theaters later this year.
"Right now, there’s no Lando Calrissian in this movie," he said. "But Lando I don’t think is finished in any way, shape, or form."
Though Calrissian was originally introduced as a backstabber, making a deal with the Empire to turn over Han and Leia at Cloud City, the smooth talking charmer found his way into the hearts of many when he eventually redeemed himself by blowing up the second Death Star. Though just a minor character in the grand scheme of things, Lando has quickly grown in popularity thanks to his catchy one-liners and iconic scream.
At this point, it's unclear what kind of role Lando will have in future Star Wars films. With rumors that the second Star Wars Anthology spin-off film could be a Boba Fett origin story, it's possible we could see a younger Lando and maybe learn some of his backstory — like how he acquired and lost the Millenium Falcon, or how he became head honcho at the Cloud City mining facility.
