Shenmue 3 officially passes 3 million dollar mark on Kickstarter

Sony's biggest surprise keeps proving the game should have been made long ago.

In what is of little surprise to anybody at this point, Shenmue 3 continues to obliterate its initial funding goal.  Today it has officially passed the 3 million dollar mark and is closing in on its next stretch goal, a "Rapport System".

Shenmue 3's announcement at Sony's E3 Press Conference has been something of a landmark in the history of the industry. Never before has a Kickstarter game been revealed and launched on such a huge platform, never mind the fact that the game is from something as mystical as the Shenmue series is.

One of the more interesting details in the game's Kickstarter video is how Lead Developer, Yu Suzuki talks about one of the "special features of the game, the Technique Scrolls.  Which will connect to the different aspects of the game".  He goes on to say that players will be able to acquire these scrolls through mini games among other side quests.  In looking at the game's Kickstarter page, it indicates that five additional mini games will be added into the game at the 4 million dollar mark.

While game mechanics being dependent upon funding goals is nothing new to Kickstarter games, the feeling that fans will get in contributing to the gameplay depth of their beloved Shenmue 3 is sure to inspire even more positive fanaticism.  At the rate this Kickstarter is going, it's only a matter of time before all of the current stretch goals are met.

Stay tuned, this crowd funding campaign is sure to be one for the ages.
