Bungie promises something special for veteran Destiny players

More information on veteran rewards coming this Thursday

In the midst of fan backlash following an interview in which Destiny creative director Luke Smith brazenly defended the steep cost of The Taken King expansion — essentially ignoring the complaints of loyal players who have been around since day one — Bungie community manager has stepped up in attempt to put out some of flames.

Taking to Destiny's forums, Bungie's David 'DeeJ' Dague has promised more information regarding exclusive content for veteran Destiny players. Although he, too, defended the price of The Taken King, he explained that the real focus of the conversation should be about what Bungie will do to honor their most loyal players.

"The Collector's Edition is mostly sold out, so the people who found that stuff valuable jumped at the chance. You'll likely see it sold on ebay for much more than what we're asking. But that's not the point. Right?" Dague said.

"The real conversation here is: What are we doing to honor you, the players who have been bound to Destiny in this first year of action and adventure? I'm glad you asked. I'm going to answer in the Bungie Weekly Update."

In a separate post on Reddit, Dague added:

"Hey, there. First day back from E3, so I'm catching up on a lot of conversation about The Taken King. Please know that we're reading this feedback and taking it as seriously – as we always do. Destiny is a great game because we worked together to make it that way over the course of the past year. That partnership has not changed.

I understand that you want me to go on record right now with something that will address the disappointment that's being expressed here. I'm going to differ to the Bungie Weekly Update, in which we'll talk more about the things we're doing to celebrate the year-one Guardians who helped us build this community. I'll also revisit our goals in offering different versions of The Taken King. Ever heard the old adage about trying to please everyone?

More on this soon.

Good to be home!"

So what will this content be? While we'll have to wait until Thursday's Weekly Update to find out more, Dague did reportedly tease that "Year One players won't get the same perks as people who buy a collector's edition. They'll get something better."

What could be better than the four dance emotes you get for purchasing the $80 Collector's Edition of The Taken King — dance moves that Smith originally said will make you want to "throw money at the screen."
