New photos from Independence Day: Resurgence show off advanced spacecrafts

Check out The Moon Tug

Fresh off revealing that the new Independence Day movie will be officially titled "Independence Day: Resurgence," 20th Century Fox has released a new image giving us our first look at one of the powerful spacecrafts that'll be used in the film.

Independence Day Resurgence - The Moon Tug

The new vehicle, which looks super fancy and high tech, is reportedly called The Moon Tug, and is supposedly used in the movie by Jake Morrison — the new character being played by Liam Hemsworth. Speaking during a special press conference, Hemsworth shared some details about his role — his character's history and how he came to take the helm of the alien-like spacecraft.

According to the actor, Jake was orphaned at a young age because his parents were killed during the the first alien invasion in 1996. He eventually joined the miliary and grew to become an ace fighter pilot; but, a big ego and a bad decision took its toll. Hemsworth explained (via Cinemablend):

"His ego kind of got in the way, and he made a bad mistake, a bad decision. He kind of put someone’s life at risk, and he got the great job of driving this Moon Tug – which is basically a forklift on the moon, where he gets to move around different pieces on the moon, which is not really an exciting job for a fighter pilot like himself."

It just so happens that Cinemablend also snapped a photo of another vehicle in Independence Day: Resurgence — one of the miliary's hybrid jets that's partially made with alien technology left over from the 1996 invasion.

I can't wait to see the dogfights this thing will engage in with the aliens. Unfortunately, that may be quite a while as Independence Day: Resurgence isn't set for release until June 24, 2016.
