Sony still not ready to talk price of Project Morpheus

With a year to go, you'd think they would have an estimate.

Sony's virtual reality headset, Project Morpheus will be releasing on the PlayStation 4 sometime before July in 2016. The headsets release might sound relatively soon to the rest of us, but it's still too far away for Sony to commit to a price yet.

According to Sony, there's still plenty of work to be done before Project Morpheus' launch. So much work, in fact, that they are unsure of what the technological components will cost. It sounds as though Sony is building the VR headset to have the best specs they can, without really considering the cost.

"We are talking about launching next year so typically we don't talk about pricing one year ahead of time," PlayStation Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida explained to GamesIndustry International.. "I think we announced the price of PS4 at E3 the year of the launch so that's five months before the launch. So it's too early.

"It's not like we are waiting for Oculus to announce their price," Yoshida defended. "We still have work to do to know exactly the cost of goods and so on."

Microsoft tailored an entire event to showing off the Hololens and held a pre-E3 conference with Oculus to announce their partnership. In all likeliness Sony will have to hold a similar event to showcase their headset, as we haven't seen or heard to much of the headset — besides its specs.

"When we spend more than two minutes on anything other than core gamers games, [people] hate it," Yoshida explained.
