Microsoft won’t be at Tokyo Game Show 2015

Tokyo Game No-Show.

Microsoft will skip this year's Tokyo Game Show, according to a recent Famitsu report (translated by Gematsu). However, the company will yet finagle a way "to deliver the latest Xbox news to fans and media," said Microsoft Japan's Masayuki Inoue. Whether that amounts to a livestream, an independent event or your garden-variety PR drip remains to be seen.

As Japan has drifted further and further from console gaming, all the while eating up all things mobile, Microsoft has found itself in an increasingly difficult position. Still, it's continued to try and push its way in. The company brought 22 games to Tokyo Game Show 2014, including Ori and the Blind Forest, Titanfall, Dead Rising 3 and Forza Motosport 2.

But this and subsequent efforts were largely ineffective. The Xbox brand has long struggled in the region, but the Japanese launch of Xbox One has proven itself the weakest yet. As previously reported, the system moved just 100 units in Japan between June 8, 2015 and June 14—less than one percent of PS4 sales for the same period.
