Devil’s Third has had a rough ride since the beginning of its development cycle. From issues with its game engine, to the downfall of its original publisher, THQ, the spectre of cancellation has hung over this project at every turn. Even as recently as this month, there were rumors circulating that Nintendo of America was dropping the game due to concerns over quality, but to his credit, Vahalla Game Studios’ founder, Tomonobu Itagaki has maintained his drive to keep the project alive and get it out to as many fans as possible.
Today, Nintendo of America officially dismissed the rumors of dropping their publishing support for Devil’s Third and announced that the game will be hitting the Americas in the last few months of 2015.
An official statement from the studio read, "Valhalla and Nintendo have decided to release Devil’s Third for Wii U in the 4th calendar quarter of 2015”.
Itagaki himself also released a statement saying, “We’ve been working hard on the game and can’t wait for fans to get their hands on it later this year.”
It was also announced that a free-to-play version of the game would also be releasing exclusively on PC sometime after the release of the Wii U version. The PC version of Devil’s Third will not include the story campaign mode, which will instead be exclusive to the Wii U version.
Devil’s Third will release first in Europe on August 28 for Wii U, but details on the release date for the Americas as well as the free-to-play PC version are sure to come in the near future. In a recent tweet from Nintendo of America, the company promised to share more details “soon”.
