Rumor: Red Dead Redemption 2 titled, announcement in the works

Purely speculation and internet whispers.

Rumors of Red Dead Redemption getting a sequel have been making their way across the web for quite a while. The game was released by Rockstar five years ago and has won several awards since its release. In 2014 Rockstar teased the sequel for Red Dead Redemption saying "we don't always rush to make sequels, but that does not mean we won't get to them eventually."

In May of 2014 Take-Two Interactive's CEO Strauss Zelnick revealed that the company saw Red Dead as big of a franchise as Grand Theft Auto: “It seems quite obvious that Red Dead is a permanent franchise, again with the same caveat.” The 'caveat' that Zelnick is referencing is the company's ability to release the games with 'incredible quality.'

That statement ties in with the previous, Rockstar and Take-Two won't be rushing to make sequels in order for the franchises to maintain quality.

Five years is long enough for Rockstar to announce a new game in the Red Dead franchise, right? Latest rumors suggest that the sequel will be titled Red Dead Revolution and will tell the story of John Marston's son, Jack Marston. The studio behind the franchise, Rockstar San Diego, are currently hiring for game developers to work on future games for the PS4, Xbox One and PC — meaning the sequel could very-well be abandoning older consoles.

As to when the reveal is coming, Microsoft has been teasing major announcements for Gamescom in August, so the announcement could be made then. There have been rumors of a November 2015 release date and an October 2016 release date.

A fall 2016 sounds much more reasonable than a 2015 release date.
