New team based shooter Red Awakening announced for PS4, Xbox One and PC

Utilizes 1980's style slasher movie graphics on Unreal Engine 4

Independent developer Domino Effect has launched a new kickstarter project today called Red Awakening. It is a team, stealth based shooter that was inspired by 1980's style slasher movies built on The Unreal Engine 4.

Set during the aftermath of the Vietnam War in the mid-1970s, Red Awakening depicts a United States in turmoil. The youth are out of control, with once peaceful student protests devolving into violent street riots. Fearing a civil war with the youth of America and the ever-increasing threat of communism, the powers-that-be covertly funds a clandestine CIA mind control program. Codenamed: “Red Awakening”, this program is designed to solve all of America’s problems at once… but things don’t go according to plan.

The game is played in a first person perspective that entails both violence and stealth. Some of the included features are:

  • 5vs5 Tactical Stealth Shooter
  • First Person Dynamic Stealth System
  • Parkour Style Movement
  • Ultra Violent Gameplay
  • Synth Soundtrack made by Gunpoint
  • Cell Shading distinctive graphics

As the Developer diary above states, Red Awakening also does not utilize a HUD so map knowledge is going to be a key asset in gameplay. Wall hanging is an added feature to go along with parkour movement and the weapons are fully interactive. Regardless of what weapon you are using, it can be thrown and the ammo inside it visibly increases and decreases as you shoot or reload. Inspired by 80's slasher movies, you can of course use chain saws, throwing knifes and others as well.

It's a new take on the 5vs5 shooter genre with some unique gameplay features added in. With no specific release date yet announced, a window of Q2 2016 is scheduled for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
