What you should buy from Destiny’s Xur this weekend (9/4/15)

Hint: Something

You know the drill: Destiny’s Xur has goodies, we’ve got recommendations. We’ve also got new details regarding added Nightfall-tier rewards in the upcoming The Taken King expansion, so now’s the time to be stingy with your strange coins. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the merchant’s latest batch of yellows:

Helm of Saint-14: The Titan’s Helm of Saint-14 is unique in its ability to make insane strategies perfectly viable. Standing in the middle of enemy spawn locations doesn’t sound like a good idea, but with a totally invincible Ward of Dawn, it often is. Indeed, the helm patches up the only weakness of the Defender Titan’s super: enemies that get inside the affectionately labeled “bubble.” With the helm’s added blindness behind you, stopping any invasive enemies cold, you can pull off just about anything provided you have the firepower. A must-buy for any Titan with even a passing interest in the Prison of Elders arena or Control modes in Crucible.

Khepri’s Sting: It’s always interesting to see Exotic items blur the lines between classes, or in this case, subclasses. Khepri’s Sting brings a bit of Bladedancer to Gunslinger, allowing the latter to take advantage of invisibility and stealth melee damage. While wearing the gauntlets, crouching will grant invisibility, and melee attacking enemies from behind while invisible will deliver 400 percent damage. It’s a potent combination, but not a practical one. The duration of Khepri’s invisibility pales in comparison to the Bladedancer original, and hitting enemies from behind hasn’t gotten any easier. What you should buy from Destiny’s Xur this weekend (9/4/15)

Obsidian Mind: Warlock helmets all have the unfortunate fate of being compared to The Ram, handily the best in-slot Exotic for the class. Is Obsidian Mind better than The Ram? No. Is it worth using? Absolutely. The ability to rapidly recharge your Nova Bomb Super thanks to the helm’s unique perk is still very powerful in PvP, especially for modes like Control where you’re liable to get multiple kills with each blast. If you don’t have The Ram, or you just want to look like a black cue tip, the Obsidian Mind is a good buy.

Patience and Time: Most Exotic sniper rifles have special properties that make them suitable for certain situations. Not so for Patience and Time. Although its ADS invisibility is nifty for some activities, namely the Crota’s End raid, its worth as a weapon comes from its stats alone. It’s a high-impact, highly stable Arc sniper. You can’t argue with that. You can customize its magazine size and scope depth, and it’s going to hit very hard every shot. It’s a force to be reckoned with in arc burn Nightfall Strikes, and a definite purchase for anyone still missing the thing.
