Destiny’s Trials of Osiris rules, bounties, and rewards explained

Trials of Osiris returns with improved rewards and better matchmaking

As you're probably aware by now, Destiny's Trials of Osiris, has gone live.

For you PvPers out there, this is Bungie's endgame for those who prefer The Crucible over PvE raids, like King's Fall.

For those of you Taken Tots new to Destiny with The Taken King, Trials of Osiris is a 3v3 Elimination event in The Crucible. Designed as sort of the end-game for PvP, it's considered the "ultimate test of teamwork and skill." Gear matters and matches are played in rounds (first to win 5 rounds wins the match), with no respawning during each individual round. The unique catch with Trials of Osiris is that you're given a scorecard (Trials Passage) at the start which keeps tracks of the matches you've won and lost during the week. The more wins you rack up before three losses, the better the rewards you can claim. There are buffs you can purchase which will aid you in your attempt; they do things like forgive your first loss or start you off with a win before you even play a match.

So how much better are these rewards? According to Bungie, gear is comparable to that of which you would receive if you completed King's Fall on Hard Mode. According to the community, gear is indeed dropping between 300-320 Light Level for skilled players (lower Light Level gear can also drop). Rewards are granted at both the end of matches and when you complete special Trials of Osiris bounties. The bounties are as follow:

Name Reward Tier How to
Attack of opportunity (bronze) Bronze Assist in 5 kills
Physician (bronze tier) Bronze Revive 5 teammates in Trials
Focused 25 Legendary Marks Win 2 consecutive rounds in Trials
Teamwork 25 Legendary Marks Defeat 5 opposing guardians with your teammates alive
Valor's Reward Silver Earn 75 points in Trials. Round wins +3, losses +1, ties +1. As a fireteam defeat 3 opposing guardians without anyone in your fireteam dying.
His eye upon you Gold Complete 10 Trials matches. As a fireteam defeat 75 opposing guardians.

Obviously, the higher the tier, the better the reward. And yes, you can get actual gear from completing bounties. But of course, like most things in Destiny, it's all random.

In addition to the bounties and random rewards, winning nine (9) matches without any losses will allow you to travel to The Lighthouse where you'll gain access to a chest that rewards you with more loot. The Lighthouse contains "Adept" versions of Primary which deal elemental damage along with other goodies.

I still haven't found an official loot list, but new details are coming in every minute as Guardians successfully reach The Lighthouse.
