Chances are you've read stories of hidden secrets tucked away in a site's source code before. Whether it was release dates, unannounced titles, or something along those lines. Well, this time we've stumbled onto something really cool.
On The Elder Scrolls Online official site, hidden beneath the source code and in the console itself, is a text-based adventure with Rythe Lythandas, which was found courtesy of a co-worker who happened to be digging around the source code. Rythe appears to be stuck and is in need of your assistance.
To access this, head to the main page (not the age gate page or the landing page, you have to click 'Continue to Elder Scrolls Online Home'), then right click on the page, and choose Inspect Element. The source code will pop up in a menu on the bottom half of the page. Choose the last tab named Console, which will start the conversation.
Since it's structured just like a text-based adventure game of old, you'll only be able to do and say very specific things to allow you to progress. For instance, if you want to tell him something, you have to type say("hello") and then he'll respond. I've also had some success with the 'take' action, but not much beyond that. Just know that the formatting is always the same as outlined above. The action comes first, then parentheses, quotes, what you want to say or the name of the item, and then close the quotes and parentheses.
The quest itself is referencing the 'A Brush with Death' quest from Oblivion, where Rythe is trapped in a painting.
I'm not really sure what the payoff is when you finish, only because I wasn't able to finish it yet. If you do, make sure to leave a comment and let us know!
