First trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them returns us to the magical world of Harry Potter

Light on footage, but still full of magical charm

We're still a year away from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, but Harry Potter fans eager to return to the wizarding world of magic and adventure were treated to a surprise trailer for the upcoming prequel movie today.

Warner Bros. Pictures released the "Announcement" trailer for the highly anticipated film, and although it's rather light on actual footage, it still successfully conveys the sense of wonder and awe fans felt when first experiencing the mystical world of Harry Potter.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a prequel, of course, telling the adventures of writer Newt Scamander who makes a brief stopover in New York after having completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures.

"Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…" the movie description reads, "..were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds."

Newt's story actually takes place 70 years before Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger arrive at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft, where they actually use his book in their studies.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens in theaters on November 18, 2016.
