Dark Souls 3 pamphlet gives more insight into game’s new mechanics

Unique skills for each weapons, better bow gameplay, and more spells

We're only about four months away from experiencing the third chapter in the Dark Souls series, which is bringing a slew of changes to the game.

A few gameplay videos have already shown off some of the gameplay, which revolves around a more fast-paced combat system, borrowed partly from Bloodborne, as well as some of the all-new skills that are unique to each weapon. A Japanese pamphlet for the game gives slightly more insight into these systems. Thanks to Reddit user TheMindWraith, we can now get a rough translation of the text.

This is page two of the pamphlet, with the first one mostly listing things we already know, or are Souls staples, like online gameplay, leaving messages, PvP, and co-op. The second page is far more interesting, and if you don't feel like sifting through the text, I wrote it all out for you below:

  • Armed combat just got deeper with new action battle skills. Each weapon has a unique and rich fighting move set. Combat has become a tactically diverse experience.
  • Tactics based fighting skills increase sense of balance in 1-on-1 combat. (This could be alluding to either combat against an enemy in the game, or against another player, or both)
  • Fight a knight who's sharp attacks and lunges will take your breath away. (probably literal) Be prepared to enter a spar with a Knight who will one-hit K.O. you. (yep, literal)
  • Mow down the surrounding enemies with a 2 sword spin attack. (Either a two hander or possibly dual wielding? It's not really clear in the picture)
  • A Knight who looks like he lets out many varied attacks. Also probably has some serious specialty attacks.
  • Use a mace to see how far your opponent can endure your attacks. Without stumbling, you can counter attack your opponent.
  • Increase your sense of role playing. Build your character in a wide field of freedom.
  • Unleash a shockwave with a roar that will shock your enemies. A warrior with an axe that raises your attack power. (Describing an action-skill related to an axe weapon)
  • The short bow excels in shooting quickly, because of its rolling motion, it can swiftly shoot arrows. It can also be a tactic of toying with your opponent. (Not entirely sure the specifics here, but it seems like the bow will be a much more viable weapon this time around)
  • With chanting ability, wand based magic abilities can temporarily have their power increased. As with tactics, the variation of wand combat have broadened. (More spells, yay!)
  • There are many struggles placed to block the player's path, it is a big achievement to overcome these challenges. The loosely connected peculiar online component is a unique strength of the Dark Souls series. Dark Souls III takes these concepts and takes them deeper to a whole new level of RPG.
