A closer look at the costumes from Star Wars: Rogue One

Costumes from upcoming Star Wars spinoff shown off at Nuremberg Toy Fair

We got our first look at the cast of Star Wars: A Rogue One Story back in August of last year. It came in the form a single photo showing off the the principal cast. It included Felicity Jones (The The Theory of Everything), Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline), Donnie Yen (Ip Man), Forest Whitaker (The Butler), Mads Mikkelsen (The Hunt), Alan Tudyk (Con Man), and Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler).

It was impressive, but you know what's more impressive? Getting a close up of these costumes. Fans in attendance at the Nuremberg Toy Fair are able to get close to the costumes of the characters played by Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, and Jiang Wen.

Check them out below.

Officially named Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the film is the first of Disney's planned Star Wars spinoffs. The film will take place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope and will tell the story of resistance fighters who united to help steal plans to the dreaded Death Star. At Disney's D23 Expo, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said Rogue One "will be a departure from the saga films but [will] have elements that are familiar to the Star Wars universe." She added it "goes into new territory, exploring the galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective while maintaining that essential Star Wars feel that fans have come to know."

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is scheduled to hit theaters on December 16, 2016. In related news, Disney recently announced that Star Wars: Episode VIII has been pushed back to December 2017, with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales taking its spot for a May 2017 release.
