The latest trailer for Ratchet & Clank’s PS4 remake shows off the origin story’s origins, with the help of narrator Captain Qwark.
Story-centered or not, the new trailer flaunts many of the features seen in the gameplay trailer: ship combat, classic weapons and stunning visuals. Interestingly, the trailer is nearly indistinguishable from the latest trailer for the Ratchet & Clank film. And the game and movie share more than just visuals: Insomniac has called Ratchet & Clank PS4 “the game based on the film based on the game,” as the two tell fundamentally identical stories.
“But the game has a major departure from the film,” said James Stevenson, Insomniac's Community Lead. “The game is narrated by Captain Copernicus L. Qwark. So you get Qwark’s skewed self-serving version of events to set up a different way to experience the story.”
“We’re hoping that when you fire up Ratchet & Clank you’ll feel the rush you felt the first time you played a Ratchet & Clank game,” Stevenson continued on the PlayStation Blog. “But we’re going beyond that nostalgia with a gorgeous Ratchet & Clank that holds up to modern standards and is a fitting debut for the franchise on PS4.”
Ratchet & Clank PS4 will launch on April 12. The film will follow shortly thereafter on April 29. Oh, and if you’re wondering about the song in background, it’s Could Have Been Me by The Struts.
