It's been long in the making, but the light is at the end of the tunnel

Syfy officially orders Pilot for Superman prequel, ‘Krypton’

It's been known for a few weeks now, but Syfy has officially announced that they have placed an order for a pilot for the long-in-development hell series, Krypton. The series has been floating around since at least late 2014, but it seems that now, amongst a host of other original programming, Syfy is ready to commit to the series.

Krypton will be a prequel story, told two generations before Superman's birth and the destruction of the planet and will focus on Superman's grandfather as he seeks to restore honor to his family.

David S. Goyer of Man of Steel and Batman v Superman fame is set to be the Executive Producer of the show alongside Damian Kindler with Colm McCarthy set to direct the pilot.

“KRYPTON is one of the most iconic stories in the comic book universe,” Bill McGoldrick, Executive Vice President, Scripted Content, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, said in a statement. “In the talented hands of David S. Goyer and the DC Entertainment/Warner Horizon Television team, this exciting Syfy project will take viewers back to Superman’s home to show how the timeless legend began.”

Gotham has proven that a show set in a universe of a popular and established hero can survive and thrive without said hero even being the focus.
