Tim Burton officially comments on Beetlejuice 2

There's 'nothing concrete'

My emotions

At various points over the last year, both Winona Ryder and screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith promised us the existence of Beetlejuice 2. Their confirmation came after tons of rumors surfaced saying that a script for a Beetlejuice sequel had been completed and the original stars Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton would be returning to the film once again.

Earlier this year, director Tim Burton said the film was "a go" and had been approved, this statement was immediately followed up by a representative of Burton's stating that there was no Beetlejuice 2 in development.

Apparently, there is no end to this emotional rollercoaster.

Tim Burton recently commented to Collider on the existence of Beetlejuice 2 and it turns out that the rumors have been just rumors. Sure, Burton spoke to a couple people about it – including Ryder and Keaton – but Beetlejuice was never made with the intention of creating spin-offs or sequels.

Burton would love to make another Beetlejuice, solely because he loves the character, but it would have to be perfect (emphasis made by me):

“This is the thing, it’s something that I’m interested in, but there’s so many stories [online], dumping Michael Keaton for Johnny Depp and this or that, and I’ve talked to these people and they didn’t wanna hear this so they just made up a story. But the fact of it is I have talked to Michael and I have talked to Winona, I’ve talked to a few people. It’s something that I really would like to do in the right circumstances, but it’s one of those films where it has to be right. It’s not a kind of a movie that cries out [for a sequel], it’s not the Beetlejuice trilogy. So it’s something that if the elements are right—because I do love the character and Michael’s amazing as that character, so yeah we’ll see. But there’s nothing concrete yet.”

There you have it, there's nothing concrete. There might not even be a script or an idea of a story… just words exchanged.
