PS4.5 officially confirmed by Sony

But they didn't do it through the game media.

PS4.5 officially confirmed by Sony

After all the leaks and rumors surrounding the PS4.5 "Neo", we finally have official confirmation from Sony that the console does indeed exist. However, Sony has not gone through traditional video game media to talk about the console, instead electing an interview with The Financial Times

President and global chief executive of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Andrew House talked at small length about the console, noting that it will not be at E3 2016 and that it will not supplant the current model.

He said:

“It is intended to sit alongside and complement the standard PS4…We will be selling both [versions] through the life cycle.”

House gave no indication when Sony plans to release the console or how much it will cost exactly but noted that it will cost more than the standard $350 PS4. The console is not scheduled to make an appearance at E3, and House noted that it was because of the following:

“We want to ensure we have a full range of the best experiences on the new system that we can showcase in their entirety.”

Translation: they aren't ready. Dev kits for the "Neo" have already been sent out to developers and there have been rumors of a release prior to October as well as a $399 price point. Time will tell if these turn out to be true.
