E3 2016: CD Projekt RED announces Gwent, card game based off Witcher franchise

Sign up for the closed beta

CD Projekt RED, the developers behind The Witcher series, has just announced their new game — Gwent. The new title is a card-trading based game very similar to the in-game Gwent game from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

As you can see from the trailer above, gamers will now take playing Gwent to the next level. The game looks very similar to the in-game Gwent game, giving players cards inspired from the Witcher universe to battle it out.

At its core, Gwent is a multiplayer game that requires skill. However, there will be a full blown single player mode, similar to the recently announced Elder Scrolls Legends.

There's only one GWENT, but there are several factions you can choose to command. The proud Skellige, brutal monsters, cunning Northern Realms, or Shadow Scoi'tael — each offering a different playstyle which can adjust to your liking via friendly deck builder and elegant card-crafting mechanics.

There will also be multiple modes to choose from; if you want to play against AI you can, if you rather enter the professional league, you could play ranked battles.

In addition to the announcement, players are also available to sign up for the beta right here. The Gwent game will be playable on Xbox One and PC; Gwent is set to release this September
