Mushroom Wars launching online and local multiplayer modes on Steam today

Both local and multiplayer add-on modes will be free

Mushroom Wars started as a small PSN darling that originally released on the PlayStation 3 back in 2009. Fast forward almost 7 years, and the game finally made its way to Steam earlier this year in April. Developer Zillion Whales is now releasing online and local multiplayer functionality for the game, starting today and it will be completely and unequivocally free.

Now, you and three other players can engage in some real-time strategy gameplay in a variety of modes featuring King of the Hill, Domination, and Conquest. This new update also comes with full controller support, and Zillion Whales has said that they will be adding private match functionality sometime in the near future.

Mushroom Wars tasks players with leading an army of adorable mushroom creatures into battle to invade settlements and crush enemy tribes. The game currently sits at an 87% positive user rating on Steam, and given that the Developers felt that it was worth bringing a seven-year-old game to a new platform, RTS fans look like they have something worth their time with Mushroom Wars.
