The fifth (and apparently, final) season of the show is set to take place 50 years after the original series ended. Jack is now an old, weathered warrior, which would explain the tone of the series, expected to be much darker and far more violent than it predecessor.

Adult Swim is excited to announce that JACK IS BACK. Creator and executive producer Genndy Tartakovsky continues the epic story of Samurai Jack with a new season that will premiere on Adult Swim’s Toonami block in 2016.
Series showrunner, Genndy Tartakovsky, is slated to return along with original voice actor, Phil Lamarr, as the time-traveling samurai warrior.
