Over the weekend, rumors began flying that Final Fantasy XV had been delayed from September 30 to later this year. While the community quietly went into an uproar over the alleged delay, it turns out that the Final Fantasy release date has been officially delayed.
The new global release date is set for November 29th, 2016.
Why? The development team needs more time to bring their vision to life. While the current version of the game is good enough to be featured at Gamescom and get a 30-minute gameplay video that will be releasing tomorrow, the team felt as though they had not met their vision.
Additionally, the team believes that the day one patch, which features "substantial content," should be included in the game when it releases.
Hajime Tabata, the game director behind Final Fantasy XV, took to a video to speak on the decision to delay the game.
“From the moment we joined this project, our vision was to create a level of freedom and realism previously unseen in the series. Regrettably, we need a little bit more time to deliver on this vision and are confident that this new release date will help us achieve this,” said game director Hajime Tabata. "As the director and lead of this project, I wish to personally apologize for the additional wait. As a team, we want FINAL FANTASY XV to achieve a level of perfection that our fans deserve. We kindly ask for your understanding.”
