Suicide Squad had a really strong opening weekend but it would appear that bad word of mouth has caused the movie to suffer on its second weekend. The villain-led film took a big blow at the box office dropping a whopping 79%, similarly to Batman v Superman's 81% second weekend drop off.
Big drop off's aren't uncommon for movies after their initial release as most people tend to see the film on opening weekend but 79% is a very big drop off. To put it up for comparison, Man of Steel which got fairly mixed reviews dropped 71.5%, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 which was given very "meh" reviews dropped 59%, and Captain America: Civil War which was reviewed incredibly well got a 74% drop off. It could just be that people are tired of superhero films or that the reviews really drove people away from seeing the critically panned superhero film.
This isn't the first big drop for the film however, the film suffered a 40% drop in just one day when the film first released. It's safe to say this movie probably won't cross the billion dollar threshold and it may not even overtake Batman v Superman.
The R-rated animated comedy about food discovering their purpose in life, Sausage Party, kicked Suicide Squad off the top of the box office beating it out by a few hundred thousand dollars. So, it would appear people have more of an interest in an adult animated film about food.
