Rumors have been circulating about Sony's next model for the PlayStation 4 since the very start of 2016. Many rumors originally pointed to a upgraded, more powerful PS4 codenamed Neo would be released in the near future. Right before E3, Sony's own Andrew House came out and confirmed the existence of the more powerful PS4 but gave very little other information on it.
Sony has since then announced that a press event will be held in New York on September 7th. No information was given as to what exactly is being shown but one can only assume that Neo will be shown alongside some games. But some newer rumors have suggested that Neo may not be releasing this year like many of us thought, so Sony may have something to tide over consumers until the powerful console releases.
Many have speculated that a slim version of the already very small and compact PS4 may be revealed at the PlayStation event and it would appear that the slim model is indeed real.
According to a post on Neogaf, someone got a hold of a retail model of the slim PS4. A user posted pictures of the box it comes in, the controller, the console itself, and basically everything. It is unclear if this is the Neo or just a slimmed down version of the console we already know but either way, it has a very different and distinctive look from the current PS4.
It should also be noted that the slim model of the PS3 leaked in a similarly strange way months before it was officially announced. Someone took a unit off the production line, walked home with it, and posted it online. Most people figured it was fake but many months later the console turned out to be completely real!
