A mysterious plague is infecting Guardians in Destiny

Quick, call the plague doctor!

beep boop

It seems like the Guardians in Destiny can contract various diseases, players are reporting weird status and armor effects alongside with some vague story messages.

The new expansion for Destiny, Rise of Iron, is just a few days away and it seems like Bungie is doing their best to get players hyped for it. Like most MMOs do when a new expansion is about to arrive Destiny decided to add some teasers for Rise of Iron. The teasers for Rise of Iron might not be as big and elaborate as the pre-quests for World of Warcraft: Legion was but at least they are something

As of now, some sort of highly contagious sparkle plague is haunting the Guardians in Destiny causing one of five different status effects as well as sparkles to burst out from the infected Guardian's armor, like in the picture above.

The five different effects are…

  • Brilliance 3.2
  • Glory 2.1
  • Splendor 2.6
  • Magnificence 2.0
  • Fortitude 3.1

and they all give different effects.

There is even a site called Owl Sector keeping track of the spread of these infections and it looks like someone if playing Plague. Inc with Destiny.

There is some story behind all this and as usual, most of the story in Destiny is found online on various Bungie web sites and this part of Destiny's story is found at the Owl Sector site.

"A few Guardians in the field report being swarmed by some kind of electronic mite. The first few after visiting the Dust Palace on Mars, but the rest from all over".

"So what you're telling me is that an unknown substance or virus or curse is spreading among our Guardians"

"What protocols are the Owl Sector implementing?

No one knows if these status and armor effects are here to stay or not but most likely they are only here temporary so make use of them while you can. And with Rise of Iron only being four days away from release, it is possible that we will find out more about the Owl Sector and the cause of the disease plaguing Destiny.
