Rumor: Dante’s Inferno had a sequel in the works, was going to let you fight angels and was set in purgatory

This saddens me.

In 2010, EA released a hack and slash title called Dante's Inferno developed by Visceral Games (known for Dead Space and Battlefield: Hardline). The game was based off a story titled "Inferno" and followed a man through his journey through Hell as he attempted to gain back the soul of his lover after Lucifer took it. The game featured intense boss battles and received fairly average reviews. Fans of the game have been asking for a sequel for many years but EA seemed to have forgotten all about the game.

Today, industry insider Shinobi602 reports that there was once a sequel to the game in development but at some point it was canceled. The game was to feature Assassin's Creed-like climbing mechanics, would follow Dante through purgatory (while still having some levels in Hell), and he would fight some angels as well! It's quite heartbreaking to hear about games we will never see but it's also cool to see what could've been! Yesterday, we also reported that EA had another sequel in development for another cult-classic, The Sabetour. You can view the tweets from Shinobi below.
