One of the most anticipated games this year, Battlefield 1, is about to release and with release getting closer we are getting more looks at the game, and one of those looks contains a pigeon.
It has been rumored for a while, but now it has been officially revealed that there will be playable pigeons in Battlefield 1, players aren't just telling them where to go, they get to control them themselves.
The pigeon level comes quite early in the game in a level called "Through Mud and Blood" where at some point a tank crew gets surrounded by the enemy doing everything in their power to get the tank open, they are outnumbered and surrounded. The commanding officer orders a soldier named Edwards to release a pigeon with their coordinates to HQ in order to get an artillery strike at their position. Then it is up to our hero pigeon to save the day by flying through rings in the sky Superman 64 style!
This section might sound silly but it really helps in setting the tone for the game and level, showing the scale of the war, the destruction on the battlefield bellow. It is also an interesting level from a historical point of view, showing how rudimentary communication was during World War 1 and what an important role carrier pigeons played, without them, the Lost Battalion would have been lost forever behind enemy lines.
Battlefield 1 launches on October 21, 2016, on all platforms.
