Spider-Man won’t punch anyone in Spider-Man: Homecoming

Maybe he's just going to kick everyone?

Violence is very common in movies today. Even in comedy films, there's usually someone getting injured in a funny way. Superhero movies are some of the biggest movies with violence, due to the fact that it is literally good vs. evil. Good guys have to stop the bad guys by beating them with pure strength. However, it seems Spider-Man: Homecoming will be changing this.

Spider-Man is a pretty violent character, he punches, kicks, uses his webs for strategical advantages, and more. All you have to do is play the Spider-Man video games to see how violent he can be! He literally attaches people to his webs and swings them around in a circle and then throws them! Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter on the level of violence in the upcoming film, Spider-Man Homecoming. Holland confirms that the web slinger won't actually punch anybody in the movie due to the fact he is just an innocent kid.

"You've seen the billionaire, the scientist, the soldier. Now it's time to see the kid. And every decision we make on set is based off how would a kid react in this situation, so every fight scene we have is designed in a way that's almost child-friendly, so he never actually punches anyone. It's all done kind of by accident. I think the biggest difference is his youth and innocence."

This isn't dissimilar to the 1990's Spider-Man cartoon on Fox which only rarely saw Spider-Man throw a punch throughout its 65 episode run. Fox deemed the punching too violent for kids although a few exceptions were made for certain episodes like when he punches The Spot through a portal. Fox also didn't allow the show to use the words sinister, kill, death, or die. There were several other rules put in place to make the show as kid friendly as possible but I don't think Spider-Man: Homecoming will be that strict.

Spider-Man doesn't have to use his fists of course! He has webs to use as a tactical advantage and can still mess them up pretty bad just by playing defense rather than offense as we saw in Captain America: Civil War.

Spider-Man: Homecoming releases on July 7th, 2017.
