Nintendo appears to have underestimated the popularity its own product, and to be fair, so did I. The NES Classic Edition, a $60 console that comes with 30 games installed on it (including Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong, and The Legend of Zelda) flew off the shelves of retailers everywhere (including Amazon) when it released just two days ago, and now many longtime fans are having issues procuring one.
This includes high-level people within the gaming industry, namely Microsoft Studios Publishing GM, Shannon Loftis. She expressed a self-described "irrational anger" at the shortage in a silly Tweet yesterday. Here's the tweet:
irrationally angry at not being able to get the NES Classic. Come on, Nintendo. Why would you short-bake these??

Nintendo has responded to the situation via Twitter, letting customers know that more will arrive at retailers over the course of the holiday season and into 2017. Here are their tweets:
The Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition system is a hot item, and we are working hard to keep up with consumer demand. 1/3

As is par for the course, some of those who have procured NES Classic Editions, have turned right around on eBay to flip them for a profit, with pricing ranging from $200 to $1,500. But for a console that costs only $60, a little patience is certainly worth not having a hole in your finances.
